ABOUT US
Founder’s Story
Our Disability Pride was created from lived experience, advocacy, and a deep belief that disability should be embraced with pride rather than hidden in shame or fear.
As someone living with primary lymphedema, I have personally experienced what it feels like to live in a world that often misunderstands disability. From an early age, I learned how easily disability can be viewed through a lens of limitation instead of strength. Over time, I began to see that disability is not something to hide—it is part of human diversity and deserves dignity, visibility, and pride.
My journey took on an even deeper meaning when I became a mother. Two of my children are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and raising them opened my eyes to both the beauty and the challenges within the disability community. I saw how access to language, community, and representation could transform a child’s confidence and opportunities.
As I learned American Sign Language, connected with the Deaf community, and advocated for my children, I began to understand how powerful disability identity and culture truly are. I also realized that many families walk this journey feeling isolated, overwhelmed, or unsure where to find support.
Our Disability Pride was born out of the desire to change that.
This organization exists to help shift the narrative around disability—from stigma and fear to pride, empowerment, and belonging. Through education, advocacy, and community connection, Our Disability Pride works to create spaces where disabled individuals and families feel seen, valued, and supported.
Disability is not something that diminishes a person.
It is a natural and meaningful part of human diversity.
And it deserves to be celebrated with pride.
